Training to be an Installer of Stair Lifts
After the accessibility store that I had been working for years had closed, I found myself out looking for work for the first time in ten years. Though I was a little rusty at making a resume, I had a good friend of mine help me out and then I was ready to hit the pavement and find a new job.
It didn’t take me long to find a job, thanks to my experience selling liftchairs. I was hired just two days after my interview by another accessibility provider in town, though my role was going to be different: I was going to install stair lifts.
I was a little worried about being hired for this position since I am not the handiest person on the planet, but I knew that I would be able to learn. It couldn’t be too hard, right?
Well, after the first two weeks of training, I am starting to get it. Sure, I might not be the fastest installer, but I am thorough, and we haven’t had one yet that hasn’t worked the first try. Hopefully I will be able to get my speed up so that I can do more installs during the day and I become an asset to the organization.
