//-->
For many dogs, getting groomed is just a necessity. For instance, for a Bernese mountain dog, getting clipped in the summer can make them a whole lot more comfortable. Some dogs are also more prone to getting dirty or smelly than other breeds. Also, many people like to have their fancy breeds — such as a Cavalier King Charles spaniel – groomed in order to keep them looking as pretty as possible. And then of course there are the poodles, which don’t shed but need to be groomed and clipped regularly so that they don’t look too poofy.

But the question is, should you have them groomed by a full sevice place, or take your dogs to one of those do-it-yourself places?

The advantage of the do-it-yourself grooming is that you can go into a shop, use professional equipment and products, and leave with a perfectly groomed dog — and no mess to clean up in your house. That’s well worth the money for many do-it-yourselfers.

Of course, if you lack the skill to do certain things, such as clipping a poodle in a stylish fashion, you may opt for having the dog groomed by a professional.

Don’t forget to also look into any services that local dog rescues and shelters might offer. Sometimes you can get grooming at a discount from these types of places, and benefit the rescue or shelter at the same time!
