Disappearing Inventory
I guess it is a sign of the times and the recession, but things are disappearing from my store. I own a small retail store that sells Mexican imports ranging from furniture to small trinkets. It is not so much things like furniture, decorations, or any of the big stuff that has been walking out. It is really just the smaller items for the most part. However, there have been a few larger items that really leave me scratching my head. How did they make off with that great big sombrero?
I have thought about getting some kind of retail point of sale software on many occasions. The down side I was seeing though was that I would lose a certain element of the atmosphere I was trying to create. The ambience I am shooting for is that of a true Mexican curios (that’s what they call this kind of shop down there). And really, barcode printers and barcode scanners do not really fit in with that whole feel.
But necessity requires that I jump through those hoops. In fact I’m going to take it even one step further and add magnetic strips and sensors at the exit. I just need to do something to keep my inventory from walking off.
