CNC Machines Get The Job Done

If you need a machine that will improve your speed and accuracy then try a CNC machine when you are getting large jobs done or doing very repetitive tasks. You can get a used one for half the cost of a new one since most individuals wouldn’t want to spend their money on a new one. CNC equipment can be found in woodworking shops or industrial settings. Add them to your collection that includes a milling machine as well.

If you need to drill holes than consider a CNC router. Some of them can hold more than one tool too. This makes it possible to do more than one procedure at a time. This will help you cut back on the tie you spend working and help you become more accurate.

Computer Numerated Control is the full name for CNC. In the 1970’s this technology was first created. These machines are easy to run and operate after they have been initially set up. They also need to be set up correctly and programmed before they are operated.

They can be made so you can drill a hole automatically. This can be much more accurate and quicker than manual drilling. You will get more uniform results. If you have a large job that needs a lot of drilling then this can be a good choice for you. You might get more inconsistent results when you are doing manual drilling and if the operator gets tired.

If you want a good thing to cut wood with then try a CNC lathe. You can buy one that ranges from 15-40 horsepower. You will choose the lathe power you need depending on the type of wood you use. You can get a model that comes with more than one mode. You can one that is totally manual or CNC. You can rig each machine for your individual project.

If you want the best in milling technology then try a Bridgeport mill. You can find a mill in both a small shop or a large one. If you want a mill that will last forever than try a Bridgeport mill. They are very pricey and more so than most people can afford.

A CNC mill use a special type of instrument that uses a combination of robotics and computer programming. You will get great results better than anyone could ever want. These are the kind of mills that the airline companies use. The CNC decides which tool is need for an operation and changes as it goes.

Since CNC equipment is so pricey it means most people can’t afford it. If you get a used machine you may find that you can afford it. You may be able to save about half on a used machine compared to a new one.

Being really passionate about cnc machinery and woodworking tools, Greg Hansward authored different summaries in this specific area. With his detailed writings on cnc machines and tools and cnc machinery the reviewer showed his deep knowledge on the topic.

How to manufacture w-beam guardrails using a quality Roll Former

Since the discovery of steel modern man has had the ability to create with unlimited potential.  The creation of modern machinery to manufacture and produce a wide range of metal formed products such as guardrails and highway beams, steel stud and zee purlins have enabled companies to manufacture high quality products.

Many of today’s roads or driveways intersect a highway near to the end of a bridge or other immovable, restrictive features of the highway.  To protect and shield both the end of the bridge and the embankment, a strong post W-beam guardrail curved around the corner is used.  The manufacturing of these interstate or highway guardrails is typically done best with a roll former.  Roll forming equipment is used to bend and ‘form’ the various grooves and profiles in to a flat metal roll.  Compared to other forms of metal bending such as brake pressing or stamping roll forming is much more cost effective and produces a higher quality product.  It should be noted that the terms ‘roll forming’, ‘rollformer’, ‘cold roll forming’ and ‘metal roll forming’ are all interchangeable.  When selecting a roll forming company as with any other capital equipment purchase pricing is typically a less important part of the equation.

As with many other large capital pieces of equipment roll forming machines can be manufactured from very cheap to very expensive.  So how do you know which is the right guardrail roll forming machine for you?  Well, keep in mid several key factors.

1)      How long has the roll forming company been in business?

2)      Is the roll forming machine built for long term reliability?

3)      Are the roll forming stands built to handle repeated bending of metal?

4)      Will the profiles been the same day after day year after year?

5)      Does the roll forming company use FEA (finite element analysis) when designing roll tooling?

6)      Is the roll forming company ISO certified?

These are some important questions to ask yourself before you choose a roll forming manufacturer.  Another area that is very important is how much money will you spend on re-work scrapped or return product?  Often with cheap inexpensive roll forming machines from China you will have to factor in the cost of poor quality parts.  This cost can amount to a lot of money over a short period of time.  It is usually better to start with a quality roll forming machine such as the Samco Machinery roll former.  With in a short period of time you will see how cost is no longer the only factor to use when purchasing a roll former.  Quality, durability and long term re-work costs are some of the key issues to consider.

Many quality companies use the Samco Machinery (http://www.samco-machinery.com) roll formers when they produce steel formed products.  The output is always of a higher quality and the cost per unit production is lower then less costly poor output machines.

Barcode readers and standards for modern manufacturing

A barcode (also bar code) is a means of optically reading a graphic representation of data.  The original barcodes represented data in the widths and spacing of parallel lines.  The graphic ‘pictures’ were originally vertical lines with varying widths and spaces.  Now you can find barcodes using patterns of dots, squares, hexagons and other geographic patterns.  All these patterns are categorized as barcodes.

Barcodes were first used in the railroad transportation industry for identifying rail cars.  Success came when barcodes were widely used in the food grocery stores and markets.  They have almost become universal throughout the world and used every day.  Coding solutions are now found in almost every industry.  Marking and coding equipment use special marking and coding software to scan and identify packages for use in inventory control systems.  The integration of barcode scanners has allowed for higher accuracy and lower inventory throughout industry.  Barcode readers and scanners are now common place in many stores and shops.  The ease and simplicity of there design coupled with the automatic cost control functions has made them a must have for many businesses.  Industrial coders and coding machines follow the same principles.  They can be found in a wide range of applications similar to that found in today’s supermarkets.  This versatile device can be integrated in to a modern manufacturing process to include industrial print control, package labeling equipment and other marking and coding equipment.

Today’s fast paced ‘just in time’ scheduling owe a lot to the now common barcode (bar code) device.

How to choose the right conveyor belt system

Belt conveyor systems are used through all modern manufacturing processes.  Belting materials range from thin single or double layer flat belts, urethane rope belting, band belting to plastic chain belting.  Each belt type provides specific advantages for many applications.

Plastic chain belting allows for quick and easy repair or replacement and simpler system design.  Typically you do not need to track plastic chain belting.  The belt locks in to geared drive on the conveyor belt roller at both the tail and head pulley that align the belt automatically.  This design inherently removes complex belt tracking systems.  The disadvantage to plastic chain belting is smooth transfer; all sections are square and ‘bump’ as he round the pulleys and belt clogging or buildup of material.

Flat belting is used in many applications fro the snack food industry, packaging machinery, paper manufacturing and electronics.  The range is seemingly endless and option as far as you can see.  Flat belts come in layers and are built up to improve strength and wear characteristics.  The top surface can be made to grip or grab (rubber belt) materials and move them easily up hill.  The downside is that replacing a conveyor belt you typically need an exact replacement, or a belting repair kit to splice a new section in.  Some belting and applications allow for using a zipper for quicker repairs.

When choosing a conveyor design look carefully at how the belting system works and ask yourself – What will I do when the belt fails?

Stocking Up for Summer at the Marina

It was just five years ago when we bought the marina at a lake close to our home.  Since we were avid boaters, we thought that it would be a good business investment since we would be able to write off expenses related to our favorite pastime: boating.

Originally, there was nothing more than a number of docks and a little store that sold fish bait.  But over the past couple of years, we noticed that there was a need for someone to service all of the boats that are docked in our marina, and therefore, we expanded our operations to include boat maintenance.

It was a bit of a learning curve to know what kind of outboard parts that we need to keep on hand.  The first year we didn’t make much money as our inventory costs were higher (since we really didn’t know what we were doing), but we made up for it in our second year.

During the first year, we learned that most of our clients needed Johnson parts for their boats, and therefore we made sure to stock up on what our clients would need.  Basically, it was just sound business logic, but until we actually knew what they wanted, we couldn’t make good decisions as to what they needed.

With summer quickly approaching, we are stocking up again this year and we hope that it will be as good as last year’s record sales.  Truth be told, I really can’t wait to get back to the lake.

Call Center Consultants Worth Money

call center outsourcingI wanted to come in and let you all know the value of call center consultants. These professionals came into my center and really pointed out a few areas that my business could be improved on. For example, I spent a good deal of my time working my business by the numbers but I failed to see the lack of quality training that I was providing to my associates. I thought they were well trained but when it all came down to it, there was a huge gap in the quality of training these associates needed. When I improved the training through the help of the training coordinator, I was able to see a huge turnaround nearly instantly.

I hired an inbound consultant to get these results. Now, I would not say that all companies you hire are going to give you the same results, but many of them can. For example, for my call center outsourcing, I needed to hire a company that was specialized in this area. Overall, your business can see sizable growth in sales when you actually hire professionals to find the problems happening within your business. It may take some time and you do have to consider this an investment into your business, but it does work.

Wondering about satellite internet

For years I could only get dial up internet where I lived and as anyone who’s been on dial up knows, it can be pretty slow going. I was so excited when we finally got high speed internet service where I live. I couldn’t believe the difference in speed and connections. For the first time I was able to download music and watch streaming video. I don’t think I could ever go back to dial up internet. I couldn’t imagine anything better than high speed.

But now I’m hearing about satellite internet and I’m wondering if it’s better than the high speed I have. I’m not even sure if I have  satellite internet access where I live because I’m so far out, but I would be interested in knowing if anyone is using it and what it’s like. We do have satellite TV out here so I’m pretty sure getting our internet through it wouldn’t be an issue, if that’s actually how it works.

Does anyone use satellite internet? How much does it cost compared to high speed internet. I would be willing to pay a bit more if it was worth it. Any information would be more than appreciated.

Don’t Let Your Lifeblood Be Sucked Dry

Any good employer and business owner will use good sense in the hiring process of any new employees who are going to be coming to work for the business and use extensive background check solutions. A good, strong background search is essential for any business who does not want to later be held accountable for the deviant acts of any number of employees who were not put through good solid background checks prior to being hired.handcuffs

If a person is a known and convicted criminal, inviting them into your office and business and enabling their access and use of your systems, client base, revenue and various other privileged information and such is like inviting a vampire into your bedroom to suck on your blood late at night. A rotten person who is able to get away with crime within a business will suck the blood out of that company in the form of its profits and will ultimately suck the life out of the business if things are allowed to go too far, or if it is found out too late what is going on. Why would anyone even let a person like this in the door. No one would knowingly, only through ignorance. That is precisely what makes these checks so vital.

Disappearing Inventory

barcode printerI guess it is a sign of the times and the recession, but things are disappearing from my store. I own a small retail store that sells Mexican imports ranging from furniture to small trinkets. It is not so much things like furniture, decorations, or any of the big stuff that has been walking out. It is really just the smaller items for the most part. However, there have been a few larger items that really leave me scratching my head. How did they make off with that great big sombrero?

I have thought about getting some kind of retail point of sale software on many occasions. The down side I was seeing though was that I would lose a certain element of the atmosphere I was trying to create. The ambience I am shooting for is that of a true Mexican curios (that’s what they call this kind of shop down there). And really, barcode printers and barcode scanners do not really fit in with that whole feel.

But necessity requires that I jump through those hoops. In fact I’m going to take it even one step further and add magnetic strips and sensors at the exit. I just need to do something to keep my inventory from walking off.

Are You Doing Your Business Taxes Correctly?

Certain things about filing small business taxes can trigger a warning to the IRS, making it more likely for them to audit you.  Therefore it is important to make sure you file your business taxes correctly.

For instance, the home office deduction is one of those expenses that makes small business owners get greedy — and the IRS knows it.  Your home office must be dedicated SOLELY to your business — in other words, you must use that space for nothing other than business.  Also, you must use the space regularly, AND (according to some interpretations of the tax code) you must use it for meeting clients.

If you don’t do all of these things, the IRS may invalidate your home office deduction, and you may end up with a lot of back taxes (and fines!) to pay — so make sure the expense is valid before taking the home office deduction.

Not all mistakes err on the side of you paying too little in taxes, though — you may be paying too much, especially when it comes to how you are expensing things like business property.  Cost segmentation services, also known as cost segregation, analyzes the net present value of your property and determines whether you are expensing it properly for the maximum deduction.  If you can hasten the depreciation, or life span, of the property, you can then claim a greater percentage of the property’s value as an expense each year.
