Education for Construction Workers

builderConstruction workers can improve their job opportunities by choosing to get an advanced education. The reason for this is because it’s not too common to do it in this industry. Most construction workers either learn on the job or get a degree from a vocational school. Those workers who go on to take advanced classes are workers who will stand out compared to the others. Standing out is a good thing when it comes to your work.

Most construction workers will choose to take classes that directly relate to construction. This is smart. However, you can take classes that are only moderately related to construction and they may benefit you as well. For example, if you’re in the business of building houses then you might want to get FHA training or some other type of mortgage education. This would make you a builder who is knowledgeable about real estate which makes you a better employee.

Construction workers who get this type of education should be able to earn more money. They’ll get more jobs and they’ll get better jobs. And by taking these classes, they may even begin to learn new things that take their work in a whole new direction. That’s what learning is all about!

Green Issues Keep Construction Local

greenConstruction companies have a lot of things that they have to worry about. They have to follow building laws. They have to know the labor laws. And they have to make sure that everything they build is in line with the modern green regulations that are in place today.

Most of the issues that construction workers face are the same from one location to another. However, there are some things that differ from place to place. Green regulations are often different from one state to another. That’s because different areas face different problems with the environment. It’s also because there is emphasis placed on different parts of green building. Some areas focus a lot on recycling of waste disposal whereas others are more interested in the energy-saving features of buildings.

Construction workers may always work on the same type of building but the rules may still be different in different parts of the U.S. For example, a company might specialize in building hotels. The green issues for building a Salt Lake City hotel can differ a lot from those that come up when building San Diego hotels.

These differences mean that it’s hard to move from one place to another if you’re in the construction business. Any time that you relocate, there are new rules to learn. It sure keeps you on your toes!

Motorist Protection for a Major Road Construction Project

crowd control barriersWhen Nena Nelson needed to find a way for the DOT to pay for equipment for several state road construction projects, her research first kicked off online. Working for the Department of Transportation had its benefits, but if she couldn’t find a reasonable way for the organization to pay for the thousands of jersey barrier, then her job would be on the line. In addition to that, knowing that all the traffic safety equipment had done its job following the projects, when there were no reports of serious accidents, would bring job satisfaction

In the scope of her job, Nena had access to all the statistics about hazardous drivers and the ways that they could injure themselves on the road. It would take all sorts of crowd control barriers, including plastic jersey barriers, tensbarrier, traffic barricades, and traffic cones to make these series of projects safe enough to implement. Finding the right place to acquire these necessities was half the battle. Now, it was up to the ingenuity of the construction workers to carry out the reconstruction plan that was scheduled to last nearly 10 years across almost a thousand miles of road.

Building A World Class Resort

My family is lucky that we inherited a beach front property.  We love living by the beach, frolicking on the white and powdery sands and breathing the nice sea breeze.

About a kilometer away, a new construction has begun for what will raise a high class resort.

My wife, daughter, our dog and I walked to the site one day.  We saw a portable screening machine busy segregating soil materials to be used for the construction.

It is amazing how they efficiently separated gravel from top soil and other fine materials using a gravel screener.

We also saw two identical orange machines and we learned from one of the guys working there that they were rock screens.  I could imagine that if the screening was done manually by people, it may have taken them a long time to finish the construction.

And guess what, the resort will be operation in less than a year. That is so fast considering the fact this is a high class resort and fine details will have to be carried out.

Well, for many, they will have to shell out a huge amount to enjoy the beach in this resort.  Lucky for us because we own a house nearby and we can enjoy the sea anytime we want without spending a dollar!

Case Study: Using a Topsoil Screener to Reclaim a Quarry

A topsoil screener can be used even in the most heavy-duty situations. For instance, in Avondale, Pennsylvania, an abandoned rock quarry stood as nothing more than an eyesore for decades. That is, until the city hired a private company to level out the land for later use as a residential and commercial building site. The company’s goal: to completely level part of the existing hill while leaving behind useable soil at a specified grade.
The project would, of course, take some time. The hired company decided that, rather than starting at the bottom of the hill, they would begin at the top. To save time, they used crushers and portable screening plants in order that the crew could remove the stripped and quarried rock which remained at the site. This method was used to remove over 400,000 cubic yards of rock and sand, which was then processed with portable screening equipment.
Recovered from the debris was mica and mica schist; both are often used as structural fill in construction projects such as sanitary landfills. These materials were marketed by the reclamation company to contractors in the area. Once again, the use of a soil screener and a screening plant employing sophisticated technology was able to make the situation win-win for all parties involved.
