Get Out Into The Sun

Every doctor out there is recommending to their patients that they take Vitamin D. This is because there is reportedly a huge Vitamin D deficiency in our society. We aren’t getting enough natural sunlight anymore and our bodies are suffering because of it. You certainly have to be aware of the dangers of getting too much sunlight but you do want to try to get out into the sunshine a little bit now and then so that you can get your Vitamin D naturally.

The best way that you can get Vitamin D from the sun is to allow natural lighting into your home. This will let you bask in the sun’s rays without overexposure to them. Rearrange your home office so that your desk is near a window. Spend some time in the garden each morning before the rays get too bright. Use eco-friendly light fixtures such as solar-powered access lighting. This is all good for you.

Of course, it’s tough to get enough sunlight during the winter when the days are short and the sun is in hiding. However developing some great sun habits now will make you capable of getting the right amount of sun as the days get longer again. Ask your doctor about how to do this appropriately and find out if you should be taking a vitamin D supplement as well.

Worth Finding a Bargain

bargainThere are some things in your office that it is worth it to spend a lot of money on. For example, it’s generally worth it for most businesses to pay for a good space and a good computer system. However there are some things that are worth the time it takes to find a bargain because there are good deals on high-quality options for these things.

Such things include:

  • Web site hosting. You can get very affordable web hosting without compromising the quality of the service that you get. Shop around and get a great host that will work with you to meet your website needs on a budget.
  • Internet service. You should be able to get high-speed Internet at your office without spending a lot of money. Unfortunately this does vary by area; areas with less Internet service competition may have fewer options for cheap high-quality Internet service.
  • Cleaning service. If you hire a cleaning company to take care of your office cleaning needs then it’s worth it to get one that offers a fair price. Don’t go too cheap; you want a company that has employees you can trust in your space. But shop around because there are fair prices on this service all over the country.
  • Car rental. If your business needs to rent cars for in-city or business travel then make sure you work with a rental car company to get a good small business price on this service. These companies are generally happy to offer good prices for long-term customers like you.

Knowing when it’s worth it to spend some money and when it’s worth it to spend the time it takes to find a good deal can make a big difference to your bottom line.

Selling Gold and Traveling

There are two things that a lot of people do: travel and buy or sell gold. How do these two things relate? They don’t necessarily but they certainly can. People may sell gold so that they can afford to travel. They may travel to places where they can buy gold. Or they may pick up gold items when traveling to sell later.

One of the most common ways that selling gold and traveling are related is that people will sell gold in order to be able to afford to travel. This is particularly common right now when the value of gold is high and the recession has depleted people’s travel savings. People will gather their gold jewelry or make a sale of gold coins that have been in storage. This gives them the money to afford the trip.

In other cases it is the reverse that occurs. The person will travel first and buy gold items on their trip which they can sell back at home. Some people will travel specifically for the purpose of buying gold. For example, a lot of people are planning to travel to the UK to go to Harrods since they just started selling gold. Others travel for the experience but will pick up gold items on the way and may sell them later once they’re back home.

Taking a New Job with a Document Imaging Company

It seems that I haven’t had much luck recently, and the last couple of companies that I have worked for have closed their doors.  I suppose I could blame it on the recession, but in many cases there have been some blunders with management which have resulted in those closures.  Whatever the case, I have found myself out job hunting a little too often for my tastes.

But I am hoping after my successful interview and job offer yesterday that things will be different.  I applied at a document imaging company that was just opening its’ doors here in town.  Truth be told, I have been in the business services field for almost twenty years, so I figured that working with one of the leading document management software vendors would be a good fit for my skill set.

Thankfully they saw it too.

So, I will be starting my new job tomorrow and I am very excited.  It is always fun "learning the ropes” at a new employer, and I am looking forward to seeing exactly what I will be doing.  I am hoping that I will be interacting with the customers (since I am a people person) and doing sales, but I won’t complain about wherever they put me – I am just happy to have a job.

Traveling for Boutique Clothing

Boutique clothing has become increasingly popular in recent years. Many independent fashion designers have opened stores all across the world. Shoppers go to these stores because they want to support self-employed designers, purchase unusual clothing and get treated to the personalized attention available in a small store. In fact, there are so many people who have fallen in love with boutique shopping that an entire area of tourism is cropping up around this industry.

Travelers who truly love fashion will cross the globe to get their hands on pieces from the designers that they love. They will go from New York to Los Angeles to visit the hottest boutique clothing stores loved by consumers and celebrities alike. They will make it a point to pick up clothing for their kids at Jean Bourget and Room Seven during a tour of Europe. They will plan their travel around the locations of the boutique stores they want to buy from.

And even the average shopper may make it a point to step into a boutique clothing store or two during a trip to a new part of the nation or world. These travelers come home with interesting new pieces of clothing. They also come home with the experience of having seen the insides of stores that most vacationers to the area probably didn’t get to see. It’s a travel experience in and of itself and it’s one that’s increasingly popular.

What are the Weirdest Clients You’ve Dealt With?

freelance writer

As a freelance writer, I deal with some weird clients from time to time.  The weirdest ones I ever dealt with was an obviously uneducated couple from England, who had evidently gotten hooked on one of these pyramid marketing schemes, also known as multi-level marketing — you know, the kind of thing where someone turns you on to a company’s products, and then you get other people to buy from the company too, so that you make a commission off of their purchases.

Anyway, this couple had gotten into a pyramid scheme for some kind of miracle-cure vitamins.  You were supposed to take it every day and it would fix what was wrong with you.  They were setting up their own website for the product, where the people they referred to it could buy it, and they hired me to write the copy for the site.

Unfortunately, these people had absolutely no clue on things like marketing and running a business.  I had a hard time explaining how they could benefit their business with search engine optimisation in London, for example.  And they seemed to have a problem identifying what they wanted me to write — that was a major problem, since I am good at writing, not mind reading.

But the real kicker was when they disappeared for weeks, or was it a couple of months?  Right around time when payment was due, of course.  I tried sending nice emails for a while, but when they ignored them time and again, I finally sent an email threatening to let the parent company know they weren’t paying their vendors.  And what do you know, I had a response the next day!  As soon as I was paid, I made sure to let them know the relationship was over — I wasn’t going to work with them again.

The experience was a lesson in avoiding weird customers, I’m afraid.  What were the weirdest clients you’ve ever worked with?  How did you handle it, and what did you learn from the experience?

Filling our Commercial Building

As a real estate investor, I like to have a lot of diversity in my portfolio.  I carry everything from single rental units to large apartment complexes.  I have had some good returns on these types of investments, and after I sold a few of the rental homes I owned, I decided that it was time to get into commercial property.

I looked through the papers and consulted with my real estate agent, but there was just nothing on the market.  But, there was a shortage of commercial space on the market, so I decided to build a new commercial building.

I wanted to make sure before we started construction that we had tenants in place to occupy our new building.  I sent a notice out to many businesses including a Tampa criminal defense lawyer I knew and the response has been positive.

In fact, it looks like three of the best Tampa criminal attorneys will be moving into the new building.  I feel really confident that this investments is going to turn out really well with these tenants that we already have in place.

In just four short months, the building should be completed and we will be able to finally collect our first rent checks.  Once that happens, I might have to look at building another commercial building – though I guess I’ll wait to see how this turns out first.

Finding Financing in a Recession

corporate debt negotiationGetting a small business loan can be quite difficult these days, given the current economic climate.  Many businesses are struggling right now, including banks, so finding one to finance a new business or business improvements can be quite the challenge.

One thing I would advise is to be extra careful when choosing a small business loan right now.  Be sure to read all the fine print, and don’t get yourself into a deal that doesn’t seem quite kosher.  With traditional business financing getting harder to come by, some slightly shady financial institutions are taking advantage of small business owners desperate for funds.  If you don’t watch yourself, a bad decision now could mean trouble later on, and having to seek out debt consulting just to avoid losing your business.

One other tip: If you are finding that a small business loan is difficult to come by, look to yourself before placing all the blame on the economy.  The economy is causing banks to tighten up, yes, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t willing to finance you at all.  If you are getting denied for a loan, go back to the drawing board: Is your business plan the problem?  Do they have a reason to doubt you’ll be able to repay the debt, or are you asking more than the nature of your business justifies?  Do what you can to improve your business plan and try to minimize the amount of money you need to borrow, and then try again.

CNC Machines Get The Job Done

If you need a machine that will improve your speed and accuracy then try a CNC machine when you are getting large jobs done or doing very repetitive tasks. You can get a used one for half the cost of a new one since most individuals wouldn’t want to spend their money on a new one. CNC equipment can be found in woodworking shops or industrial settings. Add them to your collection that includes a milling machine as well.

If you need to drill holes than consider a CNC router. Some of them can hold more than one tool too. This makes it possible to do more than one procedure at a time. This will help you cut back on the tie you spend working and help you become more accurate.

Computer Numerated Control is the full name for CNC. In the 1970’s this technology was first created. These machines are easy to run and operate after they have been initially set up. They also need to be set up correctly and programmed before they are operated.

They can be made so you can drill a hole automatically. This can be much more accurate and quicker than manual drilling. You will get more uniform results. If you have a large job that needs a lot of drilling then this can be a good choice for you. You might get more inconsistent results when you are doing manual drilling and if the operator gets tired.

If you want a good thing to cut wood with then try a CNC lathe. You can buy one that ranges from 15-40 horsepower. You will choose the lathe power you need depending on the type of wood you use. You can get a model that comes with more than one mode. You can one that is totally manual or CNC. You can rig each machine for your individual project.

If you want the best in milling technology then try a Bridgeport mill. You can find a mill in both a small shop or a large one. If you want a mill that will last forever than try a Bridgeport mill. They are very pricey and more so than most people can afford.

A CNC mill use a special type of instrument that uses a combination of robotics and computer programming. You will get great results better than anyone could ever want. These are the kind of mills that the airline companies use. The CNC decides which tool is need for an operation and changes as it goes.

Since CNC equipment is so pricey it means most people can’t afford it. If you get a used machine you may find that you can afford it. You may be able to save about half on a used machine compared to a new one.

Being really passionate about cnc machinery and woodworking tools, Greg Hansward authored different summaries in this specific area. With his detailed writings on cnc machines and tools and cnc machinery the reviewer showed his deep knowledge on the topic.

How to manufacture w-beam guardrails using a quality Roll Former

Since the discovery of steel modern man has had the ability to create with unlimited potential.  The creation of modern machinery to manufacture and produce a wide range of metal formed products such as guardrails and highway beams, steel stud and zee purlins have enabled companies to manufacture high quality products.

Many of today’s roads or driveways intersect a highway near to the end of a bridge or other immovable, restrictive features of the highway.  To protect and shield both the end of the bridge and the embankment, a strong post W-beam guardrail curved around the corner is used.  The manufacturing of these interstate or highway guardrails is typically done best with a roll former.  Roll forming equipment is used to bend and ‘form’ the various grooves and profiles in to a flat metal roll.  Compared to other forms of metal bending such as brake pressing or stamping roll forming is much more cost effective and produces a higher quality product.  It should be noted that the terms ‘roll forming’, ‘rollformer’, ‘cold roll forming’ and ‘metal roll forming’ are all interchangeable.  When selecting a roll forming company as with any other capital equipment purchase pricing is typically a less important part of the equation.

As with many other large capital pieces of equipment roll forming machines can be manufactured from very cheap to very expensive.  So how do you know which is the right guardrail roll forming machine for you?  Well, keep in mid several key factors.

1)      How long has the roll forming company been in business?

2)      Is the roll forming machine built for long term reliability?

3)      Are the roll forming stands built to handle repeated bending of metal?

4)      Will the profiles been the same day after day year after year?

5)      Does the roll forming company use FEA (finite element analysis) when designing roll tooling?

6)      Is the roll forming company ISO certified?

These are some important questions to ask yourself before you choose a roll forming manufacturer.  Another area that is very important is how much money will you spend on re-work scrapped or return product?  Often with cheap inexpensive roll forming machines from China you will have to factor in the cost of poor quality parts.  This cost can amount to a lot of money over a short period of time.  It is usually better to start with a quality roll forming machine such as the Samco Machinery roll former.  With in a short period of time you will see how cost is no longer the only factor to use when purchasing a roll former.  Quality, durability and long term re-work costs are some of the key issues to consider.

Many quality companies use the Samco Machinery (http://www.samco-machinery.com) roll formers when they produce steel formed products.  The output is always of a higher quality and the cost per unit production is lower then less costly poor output machines.
